Avatar and Ursula K. LeGuin: A Brief Note

The basic plot of this movie is a combination of two Ursula K. Le Guin stories, “Vaster than Empires and More Slow” and The Word for World is Forest. All there except for the Avatar itself, which is an excellent identification device, as we get to be both the Good Soldier and the Rebel. In particular, the Colonel is for all intents and purposes the bad guy from Forest. (photo link)

p.s. 3D IMAX is very, very awesome.

p.p.s. “A copy of The Word For World is Forest is visible at the bedside of the character Joker in a scene set in Vietnam in Stanley Kubrick’s film Full Metal Jacket” (wiki).
